Hikvision is one of the biggest names in CCTV, and HiLook is its range for homes and small businesses. Both give sharp pictures day and night, record to a recorder in your home, and let you watch live and play back footage from the app on your phone.
The cameras are only half of it, though. What makes CCTV useful is where they go and how they are set up. DF Alarms installs Hikvision and HiLook systems across Wigan, and Dean plans every camera around what it needs to see: faces at the door, number plates on the drive, the side gate and the back garden.
What a typical system includes
- Turret or bullet cameras
- Clear night vision
- A recorder (NVR) at home
- Hard drive sized for your needs
- App on your phone
- Movement alerts
- Privacy masks for neighbours
- Existing Hikvision systems upgraded
Hikvision or HiLook?
HiLook is Hikvision’s value range: reliable cameras with good day and night pictures, and a great fit for most homes.
Hikvision’s own range adds more: sharper sensors, better low-light colour, and smarter detection that can tell people and vehicles from swaying trees.
Dean will recommend whichever suits what you want to see and your budget, and both use the same easy app. Already have a Hikvision or HiLook system that has stopped working? See CCTV repairs.

Hikvision and HiLook questions
All questionsCan I watch my CCTV on my phone?
Yes. The cameras we fit record to a recorder in your home, and we set up the app on your phone before we leave, so you can see live and recorded footage wherever you are and get alerts when something moves.
How long does CCTV keep its recordings?
It depends on the size of the hard drive in the recorder, the number of cameras and the picture quality. A typical home system keeps a few weeks of footage, then records over the oldest. We set it up to suit you, and you can save any clip you need to your phone.
What is the difference between Hikvision and HiLook?
HiLook is a range made by Hikvision, aimed at homes and small businesses that want good cameras at a lower price. Hikvision’s own range goes further on features and picture quality. Dean fits both and will recommend whichever suits what you want to see and your budget.
