DF Alarms is a Wigan business. Dean Foster has spent 18 years fitting and looking after burglar alarms and CCTV, and most of that work has been within a few miles of the town centre. When you ring, you speak to the engineer who will do the job.

Whether you need a brand new alarm, a service with 12 months’ free call-out cover, or someone to stop an old system going off at three in the morning, you get a straight answer, a free quote and tidy work.

Back entries, front drives and everything in between

Wigan has a bit of everything. The terraces around Newtown, Scholes and Springfield often back onto shared entries, so the back door and yard gate matter as much as the front. A door contact on the back door, a sensor covering the kitchen and a camera on the yard are usually worth more than an extra sensor upstairs.

In Swinley, Beech Hill and Whelley the 1930s semis and bigger houses tend to have side gates, garages and cars on the drive, while the 1970s and newer estates in Hawkley Hall, Winstanley and Marus Bridge often have open-plan fronts. We plan the sensors and cameras around how your house is actually laid out, not a standard kit.

Wigan questions

All questions

I live in a terrace with a back entry. What should I protect first?

Usually the back. Terraces with a shared entry give a burglar a quiet way to the back door and yard. A contact on the back door, a sensor covering the room behind it and a visible bell box are a strong start, and a camera covering the yard gate adds a record of anyone who comes in.

Are you actually based in Wigan?

Yes. DF Alarms is Dean Foster, a Wigan alarm engineer. We do not subcontract and there is no call centre: the number on this site goes straight to Dean.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. Quotations are free and there is no obligation. For a new alarm or CCTV system, Dean will usually come and look at the property first, so the price is based on your actual home and not a guess.

What is the 12 months’ call-out cover?

Every service comes with 12 months’ free call-out cover for faults. If your alarm develops a fault in the year after we service it, we come out without a call-out charge. Parts are not included, and we will always tell you what a part costs before fitting it.

Why does my house alarm keep going off for no reason?

The usual causes are a flat or failing backup battery, a sensor that is dusty, faulty or picking up pets, spiders or a heater, a door or window contact that has worked loose, or damp getting into the bell box. A tamper fault can also set it off. We test each part of the system to find the real cause, rather than just resetting it.
