Standish is just up the road from Wigan, a few miles north of the town centre, and it is one of the busiest places we work. Many homes here are larger, with garages, side access and more than one way in, which is exactly where a well-planned alarm earns its keep.

Dean designs each system around the house: contacts on the doors that matter, sensors covering the routes through the house, and cameras where you actually want to see what is happening, such as the drive and the back garden.

Bigger homes, more ways in

A lot of Standish has grown in the last twenty years, with new estates around Almond Brook Road and Rectory Lane alongside the older stone and brick houses near the village centre. Newer homes often have patio doors, bi-folds and integral garages, and each of those is a way in that needs thinking about.

With cars on the drive at most houses, CCTV covering the front is one of the most common requests we get here. A good camera, positioned properly, shows faces and number plates rather than a blur, and you can check it on your phone from anywhere.

Standish questions

All questions

Can you protect my garage as well as the house?

Yes. An integral garage can be part of the main alarm with a contact on the door and a sensor inside, and a detached garage can usually be covered with wireless devices. It can be set separately, so you can alarm the garage overnight while you are still in the house.

Can CCTV cover my drive at night?

Yes. The cameras we fit have night vision, and placing them at the right height and angle is what makes the footage useful. We set them up so you can see the drive clearly on your phone, day or night.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. Quotations are free and there is no obligation. For a new alarm or CCTV system, Dean will usually come and look at the property first, so the price is based on your actual home and not a guess.

What is the 12 months’ call-out cover?

Every service comes with 12 months’ free call-out cover for faults. If your alarm develops a fault in the year after we service it, we come out without a call-out charge. Parts are not included, and we will always tell you what a part costs before fitting it.

Why does my house alarm keep going off for no reason?

The usual causes are a flat or failing backup battery, a sensor that is dusty, faulty or picking up pets, spiders or a heater, a door or window contact that has worked loose, or damp getting into the bell box. A tamper fault can also set it off. We test each part of the system to find the real cause, rather than just resetting it.
