Free call-out cover with every service

Every service from DF Alarms comes with 12 months’ free call-out cover for faults. If your alarm develops a fault in the year after it is serviced, Dean comes out without a call-out charge. Parts are not included, and you are always told what a part costs before it is fitted.

An alarm is made of parts that wear out quietly. Backup batteries lose their capacity, sensors collect dust, door contacts drift as doors drop, and bell box batteries fail in the cold. None of it shows until the alarm goes off at 3am or, worse, does not go off when it should.

A yearly service finds those problems first. It is the single best way to avoid false alarms, and some insurers ask for it. DF Alarms services systems of any make, including ones fitted by companies that no longer exist.

What a service checks

Every part of the system is inspected and tested, not just the keypad:

  • Control panel and power supply
  • Panel backup battery
  • Bell box battery, siren and strobe
  • Every motion sensor walk-tested
  • Every door and window contact
  • Tamper circuits
  • Keypads and fobs
  • Internal sounders
  • Event log for hidden faults
  • Settings and codes reviewed

Batteries: the usual culprit

Most alarms have two backup batteries: one in the panel and one in the bell box. They keep the system working in a power cut and stop the bell box being silenced by cutting its cable. After a few years they cannot hold their charge, and a failing battery is the most common reason a panel beeps, shows a fault or sets the bell off for no obvious reason.

A service tests both under load and replaces them before they fail, so the first you know about it is not a neighbour knocking on your door.

Alarm servicing questions

All questions

What is the 12 months’ call-out cover?

Every service comes with 12 months’ free call-out cover for faults. If your alarm develops a fault in the year after we service it, we come out without a call-out charge. Parts are not included, and we will always tell you what a part costs before fitting it.

How often should a burglar alarm be serviced?

Once a year is the usual advice for a home alarm, and some insurers ask for it. A service checks every sensor and contact, the panel, the backup batteries in the panel and bell box, the siren and the strobe, so problems are found before they cause a false alarm or leave you unprotected.

Will you service or repair an alarm someone else fitted?

Yes. A lot of the alarms we look after were fitted by another company, sometimes one that no longer exists. Most systems can be serviced, repaired or brought back under your control, and if a panel really has had its day we will tell you honestly and quote for an upgrade.

Do wireless alarm sensors need new batteries?

Yes, every few years. Each wireless sensor and contact has its own long-life battery, and the panel warns you well before one runs flat, usually with a message on the keypad and a beep. Batteries are checked and replaced as part of an alarm service.
