CCTV installation in Wigan

Clear day and night cameras covering your drive, doors and garden, recording at home and live on your phone. Planned, fitted and set up by Dean.

CCTV is only as good as the footage it gives you. A camera that shows a blurry shape at the end of the drive is no use to you or the police. Good CCTV comes down to the right cameras, at the right height and angle, covering the places that matter.

DF Alarms installs home CCTV across Wigan and the surrounding towns. Dean walks round the house with you, works out what each camera needs to see, and fits a system that records to a recorder at home and shows you everything on your phone.

Where cameras earn their keep

  • The front door and porch
  • The drive and your car
  • Side gates and passages
  • The back door and garden
  • Garages, sheds and workshops
  • Back yards and entries

Your cameras, on your phone

Before he leaves, Dean sets up the app on your phone (and anyone else’s you want), so you can watch live, scroll back through recordings and save a clip if you need it.

Movement alerts tell you when someone is on the drive or in the garden. They can be limited to the areas you care about, so passing cars and next door’s cat do not fill your phone with notifications.

Footage is recorded to a recorder in your home, so it keeps recording if the internet drops, and there is no monthly cloud subscription to pay.

Cameras are mounted high enough to be out of reach but low enough to see faces, not just the tops of heads. Cables are clipped tidily along fascias and through walls rather than draped across the brickwork, and the recorder goes somewhere safe and out of the way.

Cameras with night vision give clear pictures after dark, and a visible camera is a deterrent in its own right.

CCTV and your neighbours

Cameras that only cover your own property are not covered by data protection law. If they capture the street, a shared path or a neighbour’s home or garden, UK GDPR applies, and you need a good reason for recording, should keep footage only as long as you need it and should be ready to deal with requests to see it. The Information Commissioner’s Office publishes plain-English guidance for homeowners.

Dean positions cameras to cover what you need while keeping other people’s property out of shot wherever he can, and can set privacy masks to blank out areas a camera should not record.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. Quotations are free and there is no obligation. For a new alarm or CCTV system, Dean will usually come and look at the property first, so the price is based on your actual home and not a guess.

Can I watch my CCTV on my phone?

Yes. The cameras we fit record to a recorder in your home, and we set up the app on your phone before we leave, so you can see live and recorded footage wherever you are and get alerts when something moves.

Am I allowed to point CCTV at the street or my neighbour’s house?

Cameras that only cover your own property are not covered by data protection law. If they capture the street or a neighbour’s home or garden, UK GDPR applies and you have duties, such as having a good reason and keeping footage only as long as you need it. We position cameras to cover what you need while keeping other people’s property out of shot wherever we can.

How long does CCTV keep its recordings?

It depends on the size of the hard drive in the recorder, the number of cameras and the picture quality. A typical home system keeps a few weeks of footage, then records over the oldest. We set it up to suit you, and you can save any clip you need to your phone.

What is the difference between Hikvision and HiLook?

HiLook is a range made by Hikvision, aimed at homes and small businesses that want good cameras at a lower price. Hikvision’s own range goes further on features and picture quality. Dean fits both and will recommend whichever suits what you want to see and your budget.

Should I get a Ring doorbell or proper CCTV?

A Ring doorbell is ideal for seeing who is at the front door and talking to them from your phone. CCTV records around the clock to a recorder at home, covers the drive, sides and back, and does not depend on a cloud subscription. Plenty of people have both, and Dean can fit them together.
